Fringe Binge 2017 Show #17 - Frankie Boyle - Prometheus Volume 1; EICC, 2120, 07-Aug-17

The final show of the day and perhaps one of the bigger names at this year's Fringe. Mr. Boyle needs no introduction to most people so I won't - you already know whether you like his patter or not, or his performance style which, if you've seen his Live At The Apollo set or any of his live concerts on DVD or streaming, is exactly the same here. So you already know what you're getting.

Very big crowd and a good atmosphere. Then the show started.

A lot of Mr. B's material seemed very familiar. Partly because he was going over the same old ground - subseversive jokes about "taboo" subjects - but also because, I think though could be wrong, a good chunk of the show seemed to be recycled from his recent New World Order TV show on BBC2. Some stuff from pervious performance shows too I think (a number of which are available on Netflix). As such the jokes and lines, for me, all merged into much of a muchness. So while Mr. Boyle is one of the best stand-ups working the circuit today I couldn't help but feel he was largely going through the motions here.

I did laugh, and he did say one or two "controversial" things but I can't really remember much of it. Overall I think I was a tad disappointed.
